Destinee Stewart is selected for the Color Creative “Find Your People Program”

Destinee Stewart was selected to the 2024 cohort of the “Find Your People Program” from ColorCreative, founded by Issa Rae, Deniese Davis and Talitha Watkins. The program is in partnership with sustaining partner, Canva, and “provides training and resources for emerging creators from diverse backgrounds to learn the soft skills of leadership and develop short films.”

Luisa Novo is selected to the 2024 Mentor Latina Directors Fellowship from Alliance of Women Directors

Following the success achieved by the Alliance of Women Directors with its Black Directors Advancement Initiative, the organization has launched the Mentor Latina Director Fellowship. Their #MentorLatinaDirectors Initiative is a fellowship program for current directing members who are Latina/x/e-identifying. The Mentor Latina Director Fellowship is designed to foster meaningful relationships through tailored mentorship, guidance and networking with industry professionals. Fellows additionally receive monthly opportunities to participate in education and training, craft and artist workshops and salons, as well as career growth and development.

Jessica Liu is selected to the Inaugural Rising Director Fellowship from the Alliance Of Women Directors

The Alliance of Women Directors has chosen six directors to compose its inaugural 2024 Rising Director Fellowship class – Josie Andrews, Christianna Carmine, Angela Cohen, Julie Herlocker, Jessica Liu and Morgen Whiteman. For the next year, participants will now have access to education and networking opportunities, mentorship and the opportunity to create a “proof of concept” for their feature projects, with the program concluding with an “industry screening” of the shorts.

Sylvia Ray is selected as a fellow in the 2024 LFI Inclusion Fellowship supported by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity

In a steadfast commitment to embracing diversity and richness within the Latino community, the LFI Inclusion Fellowship aims to amplify the voices of diverse Latino filmmakers and provide a platform for them to create and share stories that enrich the fabric of society. Embracing the spirit of inclusivity, LFI uplifts and empowers Latino filmmakers from all walks of life, acknowledging the undeniable talent and strength present within communities historically underrepresented in the film and television industry. With support for the fourth consecutive year by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, each fellow will receive a $30,000 grant to produce a short film along with individualized mentorship and industry networking opportunities.

Director Jessica Liu is a Finalist of the Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award

Jessica Liu is one of nine emerging filmmakers that have been named as finalists for the 2023 Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award. Designed to create a pathway to Hollywood for next-generation talent, the Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award is given in partnership with independent studio Fifth Season and nonprofit academy Ghetto Film School. Applicants for the award must be based in L.A. and between the ages of 18 and 34. The nine fellows who have been selected have taken part in a three-month program led by Ghetto Film School and Fifth Season in which they have each produced a short film that, according to a release, reflects “on the meaning of identity and its representation in film.”

Director Sylvia Ray’s short Preggers at the NFMLA

Director Sylvia Ray’s short film Preggers is selected for the New Filmmakers Los Angeles In Focus: Latinx & Hispanic Cinema Shorts program in September, 2022. The film was produced by another Through The Blinds Director, Destinee Stewart.

Director Kristine Gerolaga is a 2022 Sundance Uprise Grant recipient

The grant supporting the livelihood and career sustainability of BIPOC emerging artists was founded in 2021 to help storytellers disproportionately harmed by the Covid pandemic. Through The Blinds director Kristine Gerolaga is one of the 10 recipients of the 2022 cycle, with her horror feature Lamok. Logline: A cursed Filipino woman begins to perform underground abortions to repent for the killing she commits as a fetus-eating creature known as the manananggal.

They have a short film festival that showcases films by emerging female filmmakers and a Womxn to Womxn in Film Mentorship Program.
